I'll usually switch to it if I have it when the enemy gets in to mid-to-close range. If I do use it, it's rarely at long ranges. It's a good gun, and it's great for RPing if you're a NCR-lovin' kind of Courier. Got the Service Rifle at Mohave Outpost and used it for quite a while after that (I think until I got into Vegas?). Would chose the varmint over service if I had to use a 5.56. I'd rather used a sniper, hunting rifle, cowboy repeater, lever action or hunting shotguns. Never liked any of the 5.56mm rifles really. Its semi-auto so its easier to control and you don't waste ammo because you only fire what you need with one bullet at a time. Mod it up and you have a pretty good rifle. Thoughts?- NCRandproud123 21:17, Octo(UTC) Really, the only thing I would change is the iron sights (too constricted for my tastes) It is relatively light, packs a punch, and 5.56mm is relatively cheap. In my games, I actually enjoy the challenge of not using overpowered/rare weapons.
I just wanna know if there is anyone else besides me that uses it, even to pretty high levels. As per the wiki, the NCR-issue Service Rifle is the unholy union of AR-15 and AR-10 parts, and can be located pretty early in the game.
